A pagelist is essentially a curated selection of pages that are rendered using a shared template. Each page in the selection is iterated and displayed in a consistent way, which makes pagelists suitable for many common use cases. They can power a simple navigation, but they work just as well for more visual layouts, such as a portfolio grid or blog where each entry shows a preview, title, or other page-specific information.
Pagelist Blocks
Pagelists are not tied to a specific location or layout. They can be created and placed anywhere as blocks inside a block editor. To add one, click the small + icon in the editor and search for "Pagelist". Once the block is inserted, a template can be selected and the page selection can be configured. This allows full control over which pages are included and how they are rendered, without leaving the editor.
Pagelist Templates
Most themes also provide templates that are specifically designed for use with pagelists and also include matching filter menus. These templates take care of layout details such as spacing, alignment, and width, so pagelists can be integrated seamlessly into a page design. For example, the Standard Lite theme that ships with Automad includes dedicated templates like "Pagelist Full Width Left" and "Pagelist Sidebar", which are optimized for common layout patterns right out of the box.
